The importance of The 4-Way Test

The 4 way test was created in 1932 by a Rotarian by the name of Herbert J. Taylor. During the 1930s he was asked to help save the Club Aluminum Products distribution company from bankruptcy. His business recovery plan was based on changing the ethical climate of the workplace. He came up with these 24 words to serve as the guide, motivation and backbone for employees to follow when it came to business practices and relations with customers, fellow employees and outside dealers. The company survived and it was credited mainly to this simple but profound philosophy. He had in fact changed the ethical climate of the business by adopting a simple but meaning creed.

Rotary later adopted it in 1943 as The 4-Way Test. Rotarians recite it at club meetings and it has since been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of different ways around the globe.

The 4 -Way Test asks the following four questions:

Of the things we think, say or do:

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

This is a nonpartisan, nonsectarian ethical guide that Rotarians utilize for both their personal and professional relationships. It has never changed all these years and it remains a central part of the permanent Rotary structure. These 24 words are held as the standard by which all behavior should be measured and how people should attempt to live out their lives.

How do you apply The 4-Way Test in your daily lives?

North Haven Rotary: 2015 Warm Coat Project

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The North Haven Rotary Club gave out about 70 new coats to the 1st graders at Lincoln-Bassett School in New Haven.
The Club allocates several thousand dollars each year to do this very important project at Lincoln-Bassett School as the children that attend this school are some of the most economically disadvantaged in New Haven.‪#‎2015WarmCoatProject‬ ‪#‎RotariansAtWork‬ ‪#‎ServiceAboveSelf‬

Another example of how Rotary is making a difference every day. I am so proud of all the amazing work you do!  ~ Gerry

Fabulous visit to the Rotary Club of New Haven

It was an absolute pleasure to speak at the Rotary Club of New Haven CT. I was honored to give a talk on service above self to a room full of attendees who clearly know exactly what that entails. This is a quality which is inherent in ‪#‎Rotarians‬ worldwide and is something that I am personally very proud of.

I also had the pleasure of pinning Rotary Club of New Haven CT newest member, Josh Kelly, for Junior Achievement, which was a wonderful moment to be part of.

I will be visiting all of the Clubs in my District this year to spread the word of Rotary and Service Above Self and I am looking forward to spending time with all of these clubs. I am looking forward to all our future interactions, as we work together to accomplish even more great things in our communities and the world.

New Canaan meeting with President John Bemis

On August 28, 2015 I attended the New Canaan meeting with President John Bemis. What a great group of fun Rotarians doing good in the community. They were getting ready for their annual Lobsterfest September 25th -26th. Proceeds go to the Clubs annual grants awarded each spring. Great catching up with PAG, Ben Bilus and recognizing him for his service to RI District 7980 as assistant Governor. ~ Gerry11952834_1500041320289210_3148104289593451012_o11888133_1500041293622546_3582587588997312068_o
